FRONT PICTURE DESCRIPTION

[Manitoba Sunflowers]

About the Front Picture

Manitoba is a large producer of sunflower seeds, with an annual output of 175 million punds. Altona is often called the capital of sunflowers.

Rather than trying to show pictures representing the areas of research activities represented at this conference and conducted at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (e.g., power systems, computers, communications, antennas, electronics, biomedical), and running the risk of missing some, this single picture represents the vitality of our Province, its diverse production capability, its sunny days (Winnipeg is the sunshine capital of Canada, with over 2300 hours of sun annually, and the sky being arguably as blue as that in southern Italy).

Credits

I have scanned the picture from a much larger postcard (#24968R) taken by Alex Wilson and published by Henry Kalen Ltd., Dryden, Ontario.
